Express
sweeps Chadron in doubleheader
The
WESTCO Express junior legion baseball team recorded a
doubleheader
sweep over Chadron on Wednesday at Cleveland Field in
Scottsbluff.
The
Express posted an 8-7 win in the first game before earning a 9-0
shutout
in game two.
The
wins improved WESTCO's record to 14-7 on the season.
Joseph
Sanchez allowed just two hits and struck out three in the
second
game for WESTCO.
Leading
1-0 through three innings, the Express ignited for eight runs
in
the bottom of the fourth. The Express finished the game with eight
hits.
Sanchez
helped his cause at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a triple.
Eric
Moreno and James Persinger both drove in three runs for the
Express.
In
game one, the Express score a run in the bottom of the seventh to
prevail
after Chadron erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh
to
tie the score at 7-7.
The
Express pounded out 12 hits in the contest. Chadron finished with eight.
Joe
Moran, Ty Wilson, Jordan Ramirez and Andres Morales all totaled
two
hits each for the Express. Connor Wilburn drove in a pair of runs.
Persinger
earned the win on the mound. He allowed eight hits and
struck
out three in seven innings of work.
